If you are making marinara sauce from scratch, you usually add a little sugar to temper the acidity of the tomatoes. Instead of sugar, try tossing in a couple of carrots instead. The carrots will cook down, sweeten the sauce, and then you have delicious, flavor-rich carrots as your side dish without any extra effort! Yum!
