Cold is NOT basil's friend; put the basil you just bought or picked into the fridge and you can kiss it goodbye (although why would you, given that it will be brown and limp?). The BEST way to keep your basil fresh for the longest amount of time is to put it in a glass of water on your kitchen counter. The water should not touch leaves; only the stems should be immersed. Not only will it keep, but it may even root in the glass! Change the water out frequently so it does not get stinky or slimy. Basil is tough- it thrives when you cut it, so go ahead, get some nice bunches and green up your kitchen!
